INDEX

[NI0286] Thomas and Judith (Judy) Hunt lived on Pond Creek, just above the present town of Belfry, Kentucky.
The Pike County, Kentucky Censuses list Thomas Hunt's household as follows :

1830 Census - Males: 1 (5-10); 1 (20-30); Females: 3 (0-5); 1 (5-10); 1 (20-30).
1840 Census - Males: 2 (5-10); 1 (15-20); 1 (20-30); 1 (40-50);
Females: 3 (0-5); 2 (5-10); 2 (10-15); 1 (15-20); 1 (30-40)
1850 Census - (Family No. 637) Thomas Hunt (age 50); Clarissa (30); Thomas (17); Henery (15);
Maria (14); Sarah (13); Penelope (12); John (10); Franklin (9); Wm. (6); Pheebe (2);
Lavicey (3/12); Judy Hunt (6);

The 1860 Census shows four children born after 1850; they were Nancy (7); Lucy (6); Araminta (3); and And(rew?) (or Andrum?) (2); it also shows the age of Thomas Hunt (in 1860) as 68 and Clarissa's age as 47, while the 1870 Census shows ages: Thomas (72) and Clarissa (52).

It is apparent that Judy, first wife of Thomas Hunt, died before 1850; however, the date of her death, and the number of her children, are uncertain. The second wife of Thomas was Clarissa Burris, according to tradition, but I have not been able to find the record of this second marriage. Possibly it took place in Logan County, Virginia, where the marriage records before 1853 have been lost. One of Thomas Hunt's descendants has stated that Thomas had a total of 29 children.

The minutes of the Pond Creek Baptist Church show that Thomas Hunt was received into the church by baptism "Oct the 2 Saturday".
