[NI0066] Joel Pascal Callicoatte died in the "Red Gin Fire" at Sasakwa, Seminole County,
Oklahoma. There were a bunch of people who gathered one Friday night at the
Red Gin, a cotton gin, to drink and play cards. Somehow the building caught on
fire and burned up many people. Joel survived, but died days later of wounds
from the fire. He was buried in a remote location near Sasakwa, Seminole County,
Oklahoma.

The Sasakawa courthouse was allegedly burned. Irene says the local newspaper
back issues were allegedly stored in the courthouse. She also says the Stone County,
Arkansas courthouse was blown away by a tornado.

There are a few pages in Joel's handwriting in the old Callicoat family bible in
possession of Cecil Loyd Callicoat, Atoka, Atoka County, Oklahoma. It looks like
he dropped the "TE" from the end of Callicoatte. He signed a contract to teach at
a "literay school" in Baucaunla, I.T. on July 07 , 18XX

From the 1860 Census of Pulaska County, Arkansas, Duncan Twp, we find the household
of Nathaniel W. Calicott, age 36, Carpenter, b. Tennessee, wife Elizabeth R. Calicott, age 31,
b. Georgia, son Joel, age 6, born in Arkansas.

The 1880 Census of Faulkner County, Arkansas, Cypress Township, list the the household
of Joel Callicoat, age 25, b. Arkansas, Mary, his wife, age 27, b. Arkansas, Wheeler Callicoat,
son, age 2, born in Arkansas, and George, son, age 1, born in Arkansas.
