[NI0048] Details of Cub Bernie "C.B." Maynard's life from an interview with
90 year old May Woodall Maynard by Joanne Callicoat
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

C.B. and family moved from the Stringtown, Oklahoma mountain area to Deport, Texas, then back to Rock Spring, Oklahoma in 1928, and then on to Post Oak, Oklahoma. This was where C.B. was born.
Miley died when Katie was 4 years old, 1921. C.B. married Mae Beatrice Woodall on December 06, 1924 at Deport, Texas. She had never left Texas until she married C.B.. She was 18 years old, born May 04, 1906 at Rugby, Texas.
C.B.'s father died young. C.B. had only one sister, Minnie Maybell (she changed her name or tried to at one time). There was free Indian land. Ben, C.B.'s father, and his brother John Maynard went to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to sign up. C.B. was a child at that time, but Ben went to get C.B. on the list for free land. According to Mae, C.B. was 1/2 Choctaw Indian. Katie and her sisters deny this, saying they are 1/4 Cherokee Indian! When they arrived at Pauls Valley they camped out and cooked some meat. The next day Ben ate the left-over meat, became ill, and died. They believed it to be from food poisioning. This was early 1900's. I don't know if they signed up for land or not. C.B. was raised by an uncle, "Uncle Annie". No one knew who he was an uncle. "Uncle Annie" had a sister named Liza. They called her "Cousin Liza". No one knew why. "Uncle Annie" beat C.B. on a regular basis. He ran away at the age of 14. He took a ferry across the Red River into Texas and refused to come back when "Uncle Annie" found him. He was on his own since he was 14 years old. ( Ben was buried at Post Oak, Oklahoma).
Miley's sister, Aunt Renie, had a husband who was wanted by the law. By the time the law caught up with him he was sick and died of pneumonia.
Cub Bernie "C.B." Maynard died at hospital in Clarksville, Texas and was buried at Detroit, Texas.
